GRAND RAPIDS, MICHIGAN (November 18, 2003) - The Aquinas College SPICE (Students Promoting
International and Cultural Exploration) Club and the Department of Modern Languages
will be sponsoring a Christkindelmarkt on Tuesday, December 2. The event will be from
noon to 6:00 p.m. in the Wege Ballroom. Christkindelmarkt is a traditional German
festival celebrated during Advent to foster community building. A donation of $1.00
will be asked for at the door. The proceeds from the Christkindelmarkt will be used
to sponsor families in need in the Grand Rapids area during the Christmas season.
The Christkindelmarkt at Aquinas promotes cultural diversity, and celebrates holidays
around the world. There will be many booths and different kinds of cultural activities
taking place, including songs, music, dancing, face painting, origami, a piñata, etc.
Authentic food from different countries will also be available for a small fee. Those
in attendance will have the opportunity to win prizes in several raffles throughout
the event.
