A new academic theatre program at Aquinas is now underway as a result of a collaborative partnership with Circle Theatre of Grand Rapids and in anticipation of the construction of a new theatre building on campus, scheduled to be ready for occupancy in the spring of 2003.

There are three options available to students currently entering their junior year:

Theatre major
Theatre minor
Communication major with an emphasis in theatre (for those who are planning to go into secondary education.)

In addition to the above options, freshmen and sophomores may choose:

Dual major in business and theatre
Dual major in theatre and music

This year, students can take courses in acting, storytelling, voice and articulation, and performance skills, as well as independent projects (for academic credit) related to this year's production schedule. Next year, courses in such areas as play production, directing, and theatre history will be available.

The kick-off to this year's production season gets underway in September with Sophocles' Oedipus the King, involving participation from faculty, staff, students, alumni, and individuals actively involved in Grand Rapids community theatres.
