Grand Rapids, Mich. – Aquinas College announced today that the school is the recipient
of a $2.2 million gift from the Helen Palmatier estate. Palmatier, who died April
2, 2014, was preceded in death by her husband Jackman Palmatier, who died in 1981.
Jackman worked at Antrim Iron from 1923-1942 and later Grand Rapids Gravel. The Palmatiers
established a legacy of philanthropy throughout their lifetime with the first gift
to Aquinas in 1993. The Palmatiers have supported the College’s sustainable business
program, annual fund and various fundraising events. They were members of St. Alphonsus
parish.
“We so appreciate the commitment the Palmatiers have shown Aquinas over the years,” said President of Aquinas College Juan Olivarez. “Helen and Jackman were very generous to us, and we are deeply grateful.”
The gift will fund an endowed professorship and a number of interdisciplinary degree options. Plans will be announced in the coming months.
