Noted poet Betsy Sholl will appear as part of Aquinas College's Contemporary Writers series on Monday, September 19 in the Aquinas Wege Student Center Ballroom at 7:30 p.m. On Tuesday, September 20, Sholl will present a Noon TimeTalk at 12:30 p.m. in the Loutit Room, Wege Student Center. Bring your brown bag lunch. The events are free and open to the public.

Sholl is the author of five poetry books including Changing Faces; Appalachian Winter; Rooms Overhead; The Red Line, winner of the 1991 Associated Writing Programs Award for Poetry; and Don't Explain was awarded the 1997 University of Wisconsin Felix Pollak Prize. Other awards received by Sholl include an NEA grant and two Maine Artists? Fellowships. Her poems have appeared in the Beloit Poetry Journal, Field, the Massachusetts Review, Indiana Review, Kenyon Review, Ploughshares and West Branch, among other journals. Several anthologies have published her work including Letters to America, Contemporary American Poetry on Race and Boomer Girls.

Currently she teaches at the University of Southern Maine and in the Vermont College M.F.A. Program. Sholl holds degrees from Bucknell University, the University of Rochester and Vermont College.

The Aquinas College Contemporary Writers Series was founded by a grant from Tony Foster, M.D. '73 and Linda Nemec Foster '72. The series kicked off in 1997 by bringing well-known authors to Aquinas College for a public reading and a workshop with students.

Other writers appearing in the series this year include Dinty Moore on Tuesday, November 8 and Stuart Dybeck on Tuesday, January 19.
