Steelcase Inc. President and Chief Executive Officer James Keane will deliver the commencement address to Aquinas College’s Class of 2018 at the ceremony on Saturday, May 5.
After a 17-year Steelcase career, Jim was appointed CEO in March 2014. He is only the ninth person to lead the company in its 106-year history. Jim gained broad exposure to the business through a variety of leadership roles at Steelcase. At various times, he led research and development, corporate strategy and served as Steelcase's chief financial officer. Prior to becoming CEO, he led the sales and marketing functions for the Steelcase brand.
“We are honored Mr. Keane has accepted our invitation to address our 2018 graduates,” said Dr. Kevin Quinn, president of Aquinas College. “Not only has he accomplished amazing professional success, but throughout his career he has shown a commitment to service in our community, one of the core values of the college.”
Jim serves on the boards of Rockwell Automation, IDEO, Business and Institutional Furniture Manufacturer’s Association (BIFMA), Economic Club of Grand Rapids and Grand Valley University Foundation. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in accountancy from the University of Illinois, and a Master’s in Management degree from the Kellogg Graduate School of Management at Northwestern University.
“It’s a pleasure to celebrate our local graduates as they begin a new stage of life,” said Keane. “These young people, and so many others like them, will bring talent, fresh perspective and passion to the workplace and our community as they begin careers and contribute to social causes.”
Recent commencement speakers include Founder and Chairman of 42 North Partners Michael Jandernoa (2017), President and CEO of Autocam Medical John Kennedy (2016) and Amway Regional President for the Americas Candace Matthews (2015).
Commencement will be held at the Sturrus Sports & Fitness Center at Aquinas College at 2:00 p.m. on May 5. Tickets are limited to graduates and their family and friends.
