The Aquinas College Theatre Department and the Contemporary Writers Series present Any Other Name, a play written by George Brant. Any Other Name will open
on Wednesday, April 7 and run through Saturday, April 8 with performances at 8 p.m.,
along with an additional performance at 2 p.m. on Sunday, April 11 in the Aquinas
Performing Arts Center, 1703 Robinson Road SE. Ticket prices are $10 for general admission,
$8 faculty and staff, and $4 for students.
The Aquinas Contemporary Writers Series will host a talkback session following the
8 p.m. performance on April 7.
Any Other Name is a dark comedy or light tragedy about identity theft. The play won the 2009 Premiere Stages Play Festival and it is predicted that it will do just as well in other competitions. Brant's plays have been produced in Chicago, New York, Los Angeles and Austin. Other plays written by Brant include The Lonesome Hobo, One Hand Clapping, Terminal One, The Royal Historian of Oz, and Elephant Ear, to name a few. Any Other Name has been work shopped at Trinity Repertory Company, WordBRIDGE Playwrights Lab, and Shakespeare at Clark Park.
Brant recently received his master of fine arts in writing from the James A. Michener Center for Writers in Austin, Texas.
The Aquinas College Contemporary Writers Series was founded by a grant from Tony Foster, M.D. ’73 and Linda Nemec Foster ’72. The series kicked off in 1997, bringing well-known authors to Aquinas College for public readings and workshops with students.
