Grand Rapids, Michigan (October 13, 2008) - Following a summer-long search process,
Aquinas College has announced that Patricia Chase, Ed.D., has been named Dean of Students.
Dr. Chase, currently director of Counseling, Health and Wellness Services at Alma
College, will begin her duties later this month.
Aquinas College Provost Charles Gunnoe Jr., Ph.D. said the College had a very strong field of candidates and that Dr. Chase’s background was the key to her selection.
“Dr. Chase was selected on the basis of her extensive experience in student affairs, her professional expertise in facilitating student success, and her dynamism as a leader which was readily apparent during her on campus interviews,” he stated. “And in the final analysis, all constituencies agreed that she was the best fit for Aquinas community.”
The Dean of Students is responsible for all areas of student life: supporting academic quality, managing residence halls and developing student programs which support individual development.
Chase has served Alma in several capacities since 2002, including director of Student Development and Counseling, Student Disability Services Director and Associate Dean for Student Development/Director of Career Services. From 1998 to 2001, she was the coordinator for the Freshmen Empowerment Program at Central Michigan University in Mt. Pleasant. In addition, Dr. Chase was a member of the adjunct faculty at Alma College and was an instructor/counselor at Mid-Michigan College in Harrison for seven years.
Chase will replace Brad Winkler, J.D., who has been with Aquinas since 1979 and who has held the Dean of Students post since fall 1990. Earlier this year, Winkler elected to join the faculty ranks full time as an associate professor-in-the-college, teaching several classes including business and sports law.
