(Grand Rapids, Michigan) – Aquinas Residence Hall Association (RHA) will host the
Executive Director of Kids’ Food Basket, Bridget Clark Whitney '02 for a donation
to the local charity during their weekly meeting on Thursday, February 17, at 8:00
a.m. in the Private Dining Room of Wege Center at Aquinas College, 1607 Robinson Rd.
SE, Grand Rapids. Junior and RHA chairperson Robert Hamel will be making the presentation.
The RHA earned the donation funds through the Exam Pack program. The annual fundraiser utilized the Aquinas Food Service to collect candy, fruit, and additional supplies from local wholesalers to create useful packs for AQ students living on campus. RHA student members then send out notices to parents to determine their interest in the program. This year, after the response of 245 parents, students received the packs during exam week as an inspiration for the demands of test preparation.
Unlike many other colleges and universities who utilize similar Exam Pack programs, AQ RHA utilized in-house staff and local products to allow for a donation of 50% of the profits. Director of College Housing Randy MacGeorge and staff chose Kids’ Food Basket for their focus on ending childhood hunger in the greater Grand Rapids area through their successful sack supper program. Additionally, Whitney, executive director, and Christine Lentine '07, head of fund development, are both alumna of Aquinas and demonstrate the College’s focus on service.
