An open house for the opening of Kurt Kaiser's Sabbatical Show is on Sunday, November
12 from 2 to 4 p.m. in the Aquinas College Art and Music Center Gallery. Kaiser, associate professor of art at Aquinas, holds a master of fine arts degree
from the University of Colorado. The show will run from Sunday, November 12-Friday,
December 15. Gallery hours are Monday - Thursday, 10 a.m. - 7 p.m.; Friday, 10 a.m.
- 4:30 p.m.; Saturday and Sunday, 2 - 6 p.m. The Gallery will be closed Thursday,
November 23 - Sunday, November 26. The open house is free and open to the public.
The artist's statement is as follows: "Having taught 2-D and 3-D design for many years,
I am always inventing problems about visual relationships, and then, by visual jury-rigging,
seeking to resolve those problems with whatever physical materials will do the job.
Hence a variety of stuff comes together to form new entities. Maybe the art is trying
to reveal the union between spiritual and physical aspects of the world. The former
is emphasized by the overall mathematical or geometric form more or less evident in
some of the art, and the latter by the rawness of the materials used to give it form
and structure."
