GRAND RAPIDS, MICHIGAN (October 9, 2003) - The Aquinas College Contemporary Writer Series presents Leslie Ullman, award-winning poet, on Thursday, October 30, 7:30 p.m., in the Aquinas Wege Student Center Ballroom. The event is free and the public is welcome.

Her first book of poems, "Natural Histories," won the Yale Younger Poets Prize in 1978. Her other poetry books are "Dreams by No One's Daughter" and "Slow Work Through Sand," co-winner of the 1997 Iowa Poetry Prize. Ullman has been awarded two National Endowment for the Arts Fellowships.

Ullman, has had her work published in such publications as The New Yorker, the Nation and Poetry as well as numerous anthologies. She directed the University of Texas, El Paso's Creative Writing Program during its inception and first several years of its bilingual master of fine arts program, and teaches workshops in poetry, creative non-fiction, and beginning creative writing and literature courses in contemporary American poetry. She is also on the faculty of the Vermont College M.F.A. Program.
